As a resident of Gwinnett County for almost 20 years, I have seen a lot of positive changes and growth take place. With a population of nearly 1 million people, Gwinnett is considered the second-largest county in Georgia. Since 2010, it has grown more than 22% and is considered to be one of the fastest-growing counties when compared with the other most populous counties such as Fulton (1,095,936), Cobb (781,763), and Dekalb (778,880). The planning and development department of Gwinnett County has also designed an integrated plan that was developed with extensive input from Gwinnett County residents, business owners, and newcomers. As a result, the plan provides a balanced mixture of new developments, economic growth, and community amenities to support the population increase of nearly 500,000 by 2040. Outside of the exciting additions over the next 20 years, here are five reasons you should consider buying a home in Gwinnett County.

1. Highly rated Gwinnett County Schools

Gwinnett County has some of the best schools in the state of Georgia and is recognized as one of the top districts in the country. The public school system also represents the largest employer in the county and one of the largest in the state of Georgia. With over 50% of its school's rating above average for school quality, as compared to only 25% for the state average, Gwinnett County is well on its way to becoming a system of world-class schools**. In 2021, Gwinnett’s average composite score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) was 94 points above the national average and 55 points above the Georgia average. Gwinnett is known for their 50 award-winning parks and green spaces totaling over 10,000 acres. Within the county’s plans for significant growth in the next few years, they have included the objective of ensuring that residents and visitors have the option of enjoying nature and all that the parks have to offer. In these stunning parks, you can find streams, ponds, lakes, and many woodlands to help you decompress after a long day and work week. The parks boast many amenities, including but not limited to golf courses, playgrounds, dog parks, pavilions, shuffleboards, and skate complexes. In addition, the parks are filled with activities and events that all can enjoy, from infants to senior citizens. One of my favorite parks in the county is Rabbit Hill Park because of the diverse activities, such as running trails, the volleyball area, and many fields for playing soccer, football, and much more. Many of the 16 cities in Gwinnett County have completed or have plans to revitalize their downtown areas. Today you can find many activities and vibrant areas built around culture and the arts. Everything from popular dining spots such as Pure Taqueria to an award-winning theater such as Aurora in downtown Lawrenceville is already available for the many residents and visitors to enjoy. My top downtown areas are Downtown Suwanee, Downtown Lawrenceville, and Downtown Duluth. Each location has its own unique feel and culture that you can experience while you enjoy concerts, movies on the lawn, farmer's markets, food trucks, local restaurants, and much more. 4. A variety of housing choices

Gwinnett County has a mixture of housing choices that supports all income levels and phases of life. You can find established neighborhoods that are primarily single-family oriented, vibrant communities with a broad combination of housing types such as apartments, townhomes, condos, or more rural areas where the county/cities will be focused on preserving those areas and maintaining their rural/agricultural feel. Many areas on the east side of Gwinnett will maintain the country feel but there will be pockets of development. Most of the development will take place on the West Side. One of the benefits I love about the different cities in Gwinnett is that you can still find many properties with significant acreage if that is your desire and still be close to the major highways such as Interstate 85 or State Route 316.

5. Easy access to a range of activities

Whether you love adventure, socializing, or a slower pace, Gwinnett County allows easy access to different activities. If you love big city life, many cities within Gwinnett County are very close to Atlanta, with a driving time of 20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day. For those who like being near or on the water, Lake Lanier is a population choice and accessible within a 20 to 30-minute timeframe, also depending on location within Gwinnett and time of day. Cozy cabins in Blue Ridge, GA mountains also allow for that romantic getaway or family vacation. The possibilities are endless!
